Danes are some of the happiest people in the world. | ![]() | |
Believe it or not, but to some extent it is true: "The Danes has emerged as the happiest people in Europe, according to a new University of Cambridge study on happiness".
Not that we don't appreciate our lives, but being called happy Danes maybe is a bit farfetched. That is an important cultural message about the Danes. We do not exaggerates. The saying "that’s not so bad" about a job performance in Jutland, means that you indeed have done really well. Not so bad, is a very positive remark. Don't worry, Danes relocating internally in Denmark, need a cultural dictionary too. Try to ask a person from Copenhagen, how it would be to relocate to Haboøre?
But as the report concludes, it's all about the feeling of well being.
People share knowledge best when we understand and respect each other. When we are comfortable around a culture and we feel well about the way the person is communicating. Some people claims not to have had a culture chock. Perhaps they are very developed in their cross cultural competences, or perhaps it is just everybody around that person, whom have the culture chock instead ;o)
With our cultural awareness courses, we provide participants with a conscious understanding of Denmark and the Danes, and how to handle intercultural encounters in order to see challenges before they transform into problems when relocating to Denmark.
Each culture is built on visible and observable aspects, shared values and norms and assumptions. The Danish way of living is quite liberal, and yet in some ways we are very conservative.
We also have some strong assumptions with regards to our way of working, which can create unfortunate misunderstandings.
But don't worry. Relocare has several cultural awareness and coaching courses, for working employees, managers, for individuals and for families, also depending on your need and who you are. The courses will prepare you to make the most out of your new country and culture when having relocated, or preparing for future relocation.
